Putney Pools

Putney sits in a desert with regard to accessible outdoor swimming. There are 15 Lidos in London. Many are overcrowded in summer. None are within four miles of Putney High Street.

Swimming improves mental and physical health. Public, outdoor pools provide accessible, affordable relaxation and enjoyment and can transform communities. Anyone who has been to Brockwell, Tooting Bec or Parliament Hill recently has probably seen this in action.

With summers heating up and year-round swimming rising in popularity it is time for more lidos in London. Putney and the surrounding area have several parks and commons that could easily accommodate a large pool and facilities.

We are a small group of enthusiastic local swimmers with big ambitions for a new pool within easy reach. We already have support from several politicians and key decision makers. The new Valentine's Park Lido in Ilford shows what is possible. The first stage to making Putney Pool a reality is to build a community of supporters.
